How to De Clutter Your Desk

If you work at a desk job or spend time in the evenings at your computer you will know what a nightmare it is to have a messy desk with paperwork everywhere,  paper clips, stationery and other stuff all cluttering up your desk.  A messy desk makes a messy mind, it’s much easier to work if you have an organised desk so here are some tips for de-cluttering it.

Start by clearing your desk, just leaving the main items such as your computer and telephone.  Categorising all the items, put them into piles.  Go through your piles deciding what you want to keep and what you really don’t use and can be thrown away.  Recycle anything you can such as paper and cardboard, plastic items, etc.  Check items you are throwing out in case you have made a mistake.  Wipe down desk and if possible wipe underneath equipment left on desk.  Then start putting back the larger items in a neat way and moving onto the smaller ones, making sure the things you use regularly are easy to hand.  Desk organisers are great for small items to keep that desk neat and tidy and make it easier to clean on a regular basis.

If you have a lot of cables under your desk, which is generally the case, get a cable tidy, to neaten them up.  It will not only help your de-cluttering situation but will protect them and prevent them tangling up again.
